Read Time: 2 Minutes
I’ll try to keep this one short and sweet since I reviewed book one about ten days ago and don’t want to repeat myself too much. After the climax of the first book, Evelyn finds herself lost and alone and in a familiar predicament of waking up on a sacrificial alter. With her soul about to be inhabited by a powerful demon, and with no friends around to help her, it’s up to her to put a stop to their plans.
As she makes her way through a labyrinth of tunnels, levelling up her sneaking and killing skills, she stumbles upon a group of rebels who hold the last safe space outside of West Peak, a large city now inhabited by cultists, demons and devils.
A lot more world building, lore, and new skills to acquire and progress. With Evelyn having an airship class we knew it was only a matter of time before they were introduced. I always like the retro-style idea of airships in fantasy worlds.
Lots of large-scale battles with elder demons, featuring loads of unique moves and ideas to help battle it out. With her twin Amélie by her side, the demons don’t stand a chance. Plenty of humour and light-hearted moments to balance out the darker parts.
Narration by Charlie Keegan James was once again excellent with the perfect voice for the characters. Production was much cleaner in this one than the first which had some minor issues.
If book three was already out I’d have already dropped a credit on it, but alas now I have to wait. Hopefully not too long! Evelyn and Amélie and the mischief and adventure this pair of kitsune spirits get up to is right up there and mixed in with my favourite series I’ll be relistening too many times over.
