Read Time: 2 Minutes
The second entry in the Emberstone Farm series is just as pleasant to listen to as the first. Maybe a little slower, thinking about it. While the first had some tension where Violet was stuck in the mines for a few weeks, this was much more laid back.
There is a hint of a World Boss event coming, but we never actually get to that. The groundwork is laid to set it up, but there’s a 12-month lead time on the event to allow everyone to prepare. Sensible, I suppose, to build in future plot points, but it does mean the story mostly just ambles along in the meantime.
And “amble” really is the right word.
Other than that, it just meanders along at a relaxed pace, as Violet along with her helpers, (I had to check the spelling) Mo, Kharli, and Lari (not quite the Three Stooges just a few orphans she employed to help at the farm and help them gain valuable skills) help plant crops, sow seeds and collect the harvest. It’s all wholesome, low stress stuff.
While it is undeniably relaxing, I kept finding myself hoping something would happen. That might be my mindset getting in the way though. The series is more cozy slice-of-life farming-sim mixed with a bit of fantasy adventure.
The narration by Rylee Kuberra was just as enthusiastic as the first. No issues with retakes or background sounds that I notice, so generally easy to listen to. Hard to put a finger on, but felt just a little more polished than the first.
So overall, probably not a series that is for everyone, but don’t let that put you off. It sort of feels like when I watch my kids play Stardew Valley, where I am just along for the ride as they go about their day.
Lots of crafting and farming and exploring, no real stakes or danger… just a slow day-by-day on the farm. Quite a relaxing change of pace, honestly.
