Cinnamon Bun Volume 4, written by RavensDagger and narrated by Reba Buhr, was a nice return to form after volume three. While that seemed slow, this one ticked along at a better pace. All the usual fun and shenanigans I’ve come to expect from Brocolli and her bunch of best mates, including groan-worthy puns and dungeon diving, plus moving the overall story arc ever forward. Though, even the whole “stop a war” storyline is playing out much slower than I’d have thought… none of them seems to be in any raging urgency to get to where they’re going.
This book introduced a rather easy-to-dislike character – Emmanuel Aldelain von Chadsbourne. Sticking his nose in where it doesn’t belong and generally acting superior to our beloved heroines, he’s an amusing (if a tad annoying) side character that adds to the adventure.
The narration by Reba Buhr, as expected, suits this book down to the ground. Great consistency between novels, and no production issues of note. Another solid performance. If you twisted my arm and I had to say something negative, the only thing that springs to mind is that Buhr’s male voices are often very similar. Not a deal breaker for me, and I don’t recall getting lost at any point.
If you’ve come this far into the world of Brocolli Bunch and her pals, then you know what to expect. A rather inoffensive, super-friendly story, with puns, plenty of laughs, and lots of glomping hugs. I’ll be ordering the next one as soon as it’s available!
