Matilda Meets The Addams Family

Review by: The Audiobook ReviewI can best describe The Weirdies by Michael Buckley as "Matilda meets The Addams Family". This was an absolute delight, reminiscent of the great Roald Dahl with horrid characters, horrible things going on that are seemingly normal, and an overall rollicking good time.

I grabbed this (admittedly) children's book because I was looking for something that I'd perhaps be able to use to get my kids into audiobooks (I'm still working on that part)... but like anything by Dahl, this I think can be enjoyed by anyone of any age.

Also, just take a moment to appreciate the cover art. I think it's fantastic! I don't normally comment on the covers (I'm often judging books by their covers but don't tend to comment on it), but it's really worth the time to drink it in.

Kate Winslet, it seems, has been busy narrating many children's classics - including Matilda as it happens. Her delivery as you could expect from someone of her calibre was perfect, and she really brought the book and the characters to life.

I was a tiny bit put out at the end to discover this is only the first book in a series, and no other books in the series are available yet. I guess I'll just have to wait, but I'll certainly be getting the next one.

If you like your children's stories with a heaping of Dahlesque style dark humour, then this book is for you.
