It’s always bittersweet when a series wraps up, especially one as fun as Liches Get Stiches. This is the fifth and final book in the series and I was pleasantly satisfied with how it all ended. I’ll keep this review short as to avoid spoilers and whatnot, but if you haven’t yet started this series, I’d urge you to do so.
The very beginning of this book had me worried that I might have forgotten some major plot point between books, but fortunately all that got cleared up quickly. Maud Greenleaf has made quite a few enemies along her journey where she wants nothing more than to sit and knit and stitch and prettify as much as she can.
Not only does she have rulers of other countries after her and paladins and worshipers of other gods, but some of the gods themselves that she’s managed to upset by merely existing.
The plot of this one rockets through from fight to fight as Maud builds her army and prepares to go against her own god where winning or losing both mean her doom. Fortunately, she has Jenkins, her lichified cat, a kraken, a building-sized mimic and the backing of some very powerful friends.
The narration by Ella Lynch was, as always, excellent. Her light and cheery narration of some rather dark comedy is exactly what is needed and was a perfect choice for the series.
So yes, this was a fantastic ending to such a fun series. I am sad that it has ended but also glad that it is a completed series. So, if you’re a fantasy fan and like a cozy setting filled with dark humour, reanimated dead, corpse and flower arrangement, knitting and loads of magical nonsense then this has it in spades.
If not, well, as Maud might say… “Stick it up your jumper and eat grenades for breakfast.” Just kidding, of course! 🙂
