Starting Over

Review by: The Audiobook ReviewBy book five in a series, you could be forgiven for thinking that the characters are reaching new heights of greatness and have nowhere else to go. Rimmel deftly sidestepped this by killing the main character (well, sort of) and sending him right back to where it all started. "Re-morting" is a thing in this universe, and poor old Jim just went through it.

This book doesn't advance the plot a whole lot and feels a little like a filler episode. Not dreadful, but didn't move the needle as much as others in the series. A lot of set up I suppose, for what's to come next in the series.

I'm keeping this review purposefully short because five books in, I don't want to give away spoilers. The humour of the earlier novels is still there, maybe even more so. The more we learn of the history of this world, the more we find out how much of it is based on pop culture and memes... as if the mighty Grebthar of legend was just trolling the entire planet.

The audio quality and narration were excellent. After revisiting the earlier books in the series, the quality has noticeably improved. Johnathan McClain's narration style is unique as well, almost like exasperated and amused at the same time.


I've already purchased and started the next in the series, so I'm sticking with it!
