Ugh, this was cringey. What starts with a lopsided deal that is essentially the main character getting forced into eternal slavery doesn’t get better by throwing loads of women at the dude. So, let’s back up a bit. The Dungeon Core has an avatar that it can use to interact with the world. After decades of being stuck inside the dungeon, it, or rather she, wants out.
In particular she has a major case of the horn and wants to sex up the poor sap she manages to save. Dying on the floor of the dungeon, Anton agrees to the dungeons deal to help her with whatever she needs for the rest of his life. He can’t be more than a few dozen yards from her side, otherwise he has a panic attack and has to run back to her side.
Now, one particular thing to note. The dungeon avatar, Kelsey, is described as a hot white girl. She enslaves Anton, a black guy. That’s not a good look right there.
In fact, all the people in the town beside the dungeon have dark skin. The story opens with a bunch of the townsfolk being killed, with many of them being taken away for the slave trade. The authors make plenty of references to the dark skin of the people, really driving the point home.
Along the way, white girl dungeon basically gets another slave in the form of Aris, the girl Anton is going to marry. Aris doesn’t want to leave Anton, so has no choice but to join him and his life with the dungeon. The first time Aris and Anton do the wild thing, Kelsey feels the need to butt in and “help” them do the deed. Like what, they wouldn’t have been able to figure out boning* by themselves?
* That’s a pun that’s also relevant because the dungeon is filled with skeletons… and because it’s a euphemism for sex. 🙂
Sigh… then more author wish-fulfillment, er I mean more plot happens, when yet another hot girl finds Anton irresistible and besides the fact he has a fiancé, the dungeon talks all of them into expanding the harem and getting a double marriage. Anton complains basically the whole time, while the women just chuck themselves into the sexy times.
One extra weird bit where the dungeon manifests her helper (a dungeon fairy) three-foot high and naked. The fairy who, after eons of not giving a crap, suddenly feels the need to get her pipes cleaned so she gets a go with the dungeon as well. This is uncomfortable on a few levels.
The narration by Rachel Leblang didn’t help the story. Her male voices frequently sounded similar and poorly executed, like she doesn’t have a lot of training or experience in voicing characters of the opposite sex. The quality however was good, with no noticeable background noises or retakes. Her female voices are easy to listen to though, just more practice needed to improve her range.
Will I continue this series? No, it ends here for me. While there was more going on than just what I have listed above, it mostly seemed a way to force more people together into the harem. So, with that, and the whole slavery stuff… yeah. I’ll leave it right here.
