Read Time: 2 Minutes
Between the Layers, written by Danielle Palli, is the third book of the Data Collectors trilogy in a series that took me by surprise in the first book and sucked me right into the world created by Palli. These books blend magic and sci-fi while still being very down to earth and are filled with such an interesting and unique cast of characters.
In book three, Lucene and her pals deal with the after-effects of book two. The banishing of the demon Jasper Set to a different realm has created a few new issues for the people of Erde. Other creatures are making their way through to cause havoc, and a war is brewing between empires that might just be the end of the peaceful planet Erde.
Like the previous books, this one had me tearing through vast chunks of time and earbud battery power as it’s one of those stories that once you’re into, it’s hard to find the will to stop.
Narration again by Graham Mack and Danielle Palli brought the book to life. When Danielle reached out to let me know book three was available, she mentioned that an updated version of book one would be coming soon, where she would be voicing the female characters as she did for books two and three. While Mack did a great job in book one, I believe the dual narration works much better. For some books, more than one narrator can be hit-and-miss at times, but for me, Graham and Danielle work well together.
Overall, well recommended and a series that I’ll be listening to again in the future.
