The Audiobook Month in Review April

Month in Review – April 2026

Read Time: 3 Minutes

A bit of a slower month for me this month as I had a bunch of other things happening that took me away from listening more than I’d like.

These Quick Takes slice each listen down to the essentials and whether I’d press play again, all in under 100 words. Read fast, judge faster, and pick the one that promises the exact level of chaos or calm you need right now.

Here are the quick takes.

[3] Blood Eternal The Blood & Ancient Scrolls Series, Book

Blood Eternal

Blood Eternal leans heavily into ancient vampire history, digging into the origins of the Am’r and the forces working against them. Much of the story unfolds through backstory and reflection, but it adds real weight to the present. There is still plenty of tension, violence, and increasingly intense relationships, with Noosh continuing to juggle her place between worlds. A lore-rich entry that expands the series in meaningful ways and deepens the stakes. Read the Review

[2] My Big Goblin Space Program 2 An Astronaut Reincarnation LitRPG My Big Goblin Space Program, Book

My Big Goblin Space Program 2

Book two continues the chaotic rise of Apollo and his goblin tribe, blending explosive inventions with increasingly absurd worldbuilding. From questionable combustion engines to desert runs that feel straight out of Mad Max, the story leans hard into its humour. Progress toward the moon slows a little as the focus shifts to side adventures, but the creativity and energy carry it through. Another fun instalment, packed with goblin chaos and barely controlled engineering. Read the Review

[3] Kiosk Kingdom Discount Dan’s Backroom Bargains, Book

Kiosk Kingdom

Kiosk Kingdom pushes further into chaos as Dan and crew head toward the Franchiser on level 99. The focus shifts more toward combat, relic forging, and progression, with less emphasis on shop building. From a twisted Christmas floor to creative takes on newly public domain characters, the variety keeps things interesting. Dan continues to grow rapidly, though stronger enemies help balance things out. A fun, fast-moving entry, though a recap would have helped. Read the Review

Windigo Soul

Windigo Soul

A bleak dystopian story built around a chilling premise, mandatory death at sixty in a world struggling with overpopulation and scarcity. The ideas are unsettling, with clear influences from classic dystopian sci-fi, and a steady pace that lets the mystery unfold. The narration did not quite land for me, with character voices lacking distinction. Still, an interesting listen with some strong concepts, even if it feels familiar in places. Read the Review

The Terminal Gene A Techno Conspiracy Thriller

The Terminal Gene

A fast-paced techno-thriller built around a sharp premise, what if your DNA could predict the exact moment of death? The story moves quickly from discovery to conspiracy, with corporate interests and ethical questions driving the tension. Emily is a solid lead, and the dual narration adds a nice balance between urgency and restraint. It rarely slows down, which keeps it engaging, even if some moments could have used more breathing room.

An easy, high stakes listen with a thought-provoking core. Read the Review
