Strange, Interesting Short Stories

Review by: The Audiobook ReviewLying and Making a Living, written by William Dunlap, is a collection of somewhat surreal short stories that run from a couple of paragraphs to a handful of chapters. Some were a bit weird; some pushed the boundaries of morality at times. Others still had me chuckling at a happenstance or turn of phrase, while others had me questioning if I'd finish. A bit of a mixed bag really.

I'm a bit in two minds of the whole "footnotes" aspect of the book. Each story is accompanied by a footnote explaining something in particular. These diversions did distract on occasion, but others I found to be useful. Footnotes obviously work well in printed books as you can choose to skip over them if you don't need them, whereas in audio you're kind of stuck with them.

Narration by Eric Altheide was decent. Nothing that jumped out at me as out of the box, but a solid performance. No production issues I noticed for an overall professional finish.

Short review this time for a collection of short stories. Not for the easily offended, but a good collection of stories to suck you into a small part of the world, if only for a moment.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I have not let this gift affect nor influence my opinions of this audiobook and have left an honest review.
