Review by: The Audiobook ReviewSorry, but I couldn't go past that title once I'd thought of it.
This dark comedy by Terry M. West is set after the somewhat fall of society after a strange sickness turns everyone into zombies (aka "plaguers" but they're basically zombies), sees life trying to go on as normal from the perspective of a couple of plumbers trying their best to keep the water flowing and the bogs unclogged.
Foul-mouthed and sharp-witted, plumbers Liam and Pierce are dedicated to seeing the job through. As they travel across the city, they banter back and forth. Some of this feeling a little forced at times, but natural at others.
The main characters of Liam and Pierce are likeable enough. Salt of the earth, hard-working guys which fit in well as survivors of the plague that has killed off so many. There was some backstory added early on regarding a son that didn't really go anywhere given the time taken to introduce him, so not sure why it was there.
The narrator, Paul Burt, did a good of thick accents, making them obviously Irish yet easy enough to understand for someone who doesn't hear a lot of that accent day-to-day. No obvious quality issues caught my attention.
This was my first time reading anything by West, and as enjoyable as I found it, I'm not sure if his other works appeal to my tastes. Straight-up horror isn't a genre I gravitate towards. I normally enjoy it with a few laughs thrown in like this one.
Certainly worth a listen if you like darkly humorous zombie fiction.I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I have not let this gift affect nor influence my opinions of this audiobook and have left an honest review.
