Review by: The Audiobook ReviewA quick confession - I only glanced at the blurb before I picked up Dance with the Reaper by Wes Markin, and jumped right in. Turns out, it's book 5 of a series, but I pushed on ahead regardless as any series like this should be able to stand alone well enough without needing to read the priors.

And it delivered in spades. I quickly got up to speed with who I needed to know about, and sure there were a few bits and pieces alluding to events in past novels but I could make out enough of it that it didn't slow me down.

This was easily one of the best crime thrillers I've read in a long while. The bloodthirsty, psychopathic murderer-for-hire was stunningly unique and almost over-the-top vicious but Markin rode the line and delivered a fantastic character. I could barely wait to see what would be his downfall.

Narration by Aubrey Parsons was top-notch. I don't believe I've heard anything of his before but I'll certainly be going through his back catalogue as well as Markin's. Excellent characterisations, with spot-on timing that'll make your heart pound as he ably narrates this thriller.

Be warned - there is A LOT of horrific killing in this book, described in gory detail. So not for the squeamish, but if that doesn't bother you then this series is for you. I'll be sticking the other books in the series into my wish list to visit at a later date. For now, I think I need to shake off blood splatter and take a moment! :)
