Magic for nerds - I love it!

Review by: The Audiobook ReviewThis book was a lot of fun. I've read a few "reality is really a computer simulation" books but never were any this entertaining. Scott Meyer does a great job of world building, and adding in plenty of fun along the way.

I'll admit I'm probably the target audience - computer nerd and science-fiction / fantasy fan so this appeals to a lot of what I like.

Our protagonist, Martin, discovers a secret computer file which after some experimentation he finds he can use to control reality. Changing things like his position on the planet (teleport), his bank balance, and eventually his position in the time stream.

After making an ass of himself in the middle ages, the plot picks up and we're introduced to many of the characters who appear in the later books. The stakes are raised and the plot gets crazier (think mecha fights in ye olde England).

The narrator, Luke Daniels, I was initially on the fence. I wasn't sure, but I warmed up to his voice by the end of the first chapter and ultimately I think he delivered a solid performance.

All in all, a great start to the series. I'm a little behind, having only so far listened to the first 3 of 6 books currently in the series. Something I hope to rectify over the coming months. Certainly a series I'll be sticking with!
