Immerse Yourself in this Post-Apocalyptic World

Review by: The Audiobook ReviewHad I done any research prior to snagging a copy of this book I probably wouldn't have got past the sample, because second-person point of view narratives (ie- you do this, you are feeling that) aren't my favourite style... and that would have been a shame, because once I got past my biases I really enjoyed this.

For most of the book, you're experiencing the world as Captain Sarah Ford... a kind of virtual reality but for your ears only. Set sometime after the robot uprising that exterminated virtually everyone on the planet, the stories opens with a bang and rarely steps off the accelerator.

The world imagined by Eamon Ambrose is one so desolate it's hard to imagine any human could triumph over such adversity. I did feel a little let down by the antagonist's seeming lack of reason for bringing about the apocalypse, but I don't think it detracted too much from the overall story.

Narration by James Highfield was top-notch, delivering the beats and urgency required to fully immerse me in the experience. No obvious production errors or noise, overall a quality recording.

It's worth noting that best-selling author Hugh Howey also placed his stamp of approval on this book, which is a massive tick in its favour, and he certainly knows a thing or two about "end of the world" fiction.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I have not let this gift affect nor influence my opinions of this audiobook and have left an honest review.
