Read Time: 2 Minutes
Tyson Dawes, CEO of Silken Sands and bane of the old “powers that be” in the BuyMort universe continues to ratchet up his response to the threats against his affiliate. Not only to his life and those of the people he loves, but all of Nu-Earth is now in peril. Tyson has to tread carefully but carries an ever increasingly big gun.
With successes from previous encounters, his ability to purchase even greater relics reaches an all-time high. The ships are damn-near impossible to stop, impervious to virtually everything that can be thrown at them. But the Church has been around way longer than Silken Sands and have their own relics.
One thing you’d know if you’ve listened to previous books are the (sometimes) humorous BuyMort advertisements that get added, sometimes at inopportune moments. While I generally don’t mind them, there were a few in this that really destroyed the flow of a scene. Either they could have been handled better or just went on way too long.
At some points I found I was tapping the skip button on my app just to get back to the action. I don’t like skipping parts of books where I can avoid it, and fortunately these fake ad breaks aren’t critical to the plot… but it still bothers me.
The last maybe hour or so is where this book shines, and it feels like the authors could have gone either way to either end the series or keep it going. It feels like it was written to end here, but a quick web search later shows that book 7 “BuyMort: Singularity” is in the works so there’s at least one more to look forward to.
The narration by Wayne Mitchell was a good and polished as ever. I’m still not the biggest fan of a couple of his voices but that’s really a minor thing in the grand scheme of things. Mitchell gets you sucked right in when action kicks off as his style changes to suit, narrating a little faster and more emphatically.
So overall, another great addition to the BuyMort series. I honestly wouldn’t have minded if the authors had chosen to end the series on this one, but I’m also glad to be getting another one!
