TaoTronics SoundLiberty 79 Bluetooth Earbuds

By: Morgan Hobbes | 18th of July, 2020

Recently, I took delivery of my new TaoTronics SoundLiberty 79 Bluetooth Earbuds. These are the first pair of earbuds that I've owned that have been completely wireless. My previous pair, a cheap $9 set while sporting Bluetooth, still had the connecting wire between buds as well as annoying short battery life (around 1 hour or so).

The time had come to treat myself to a new set. I had a few, basic specs in mind that were for the most part non-negotiable.

The Minimum Specs I Wanted

  • Must be Bluetooth - because, duh.
  • Must not have wires - so sick of having wires dangling around my neck and getting snagged on things.
  • Must have a decent battery life - something that would last for hours, if not the whole day.
  • Must not cost a ridiculous amount of money (ie, not AirPod price)

So after searching through Amazon I stumbled upon TaoTronics SoundLiberty 79 Bluetooth Headphones. Talk about ticking every damn box! A few clicks later and they were on their way to me, courtesy of Amazon Prime.

What's in the Box

For a start, a massive 8 hours of continuous playtime from a single full charge, plus an additional 22 hours of charge time thanks to the case. This means they've got more charge than I can typically expect to need in an entire day, plus they charge up while in their handy protective case. Ultimately, less plugging needed keeping my USB ports free for other things.

Single or dual-mode - ie one ear or two. Super handy for me, as I often find myself listening to books or podcasts while making dinner and my kids want to interrupt and talk to me about something. By using the single bud I still have all control over pause/play/etc but can also hear people talking to me. I can be a bit oblivious otherwise!

The virtual assistant and call answering options are useful but not something I tend to use all that often. For the time being, I've disabled this ability on my Bluetooth settings on my phone so I don't accidentally get Google waiting for my input while all I meant to do was pause. When I have used them to make calls, the quality was crystal clear so will use that feature in the future.

The buds aren't too heavy and aren't too light. They have a nice heft to them which gives them a sense of quality you don't get in lightweight options, but not too much that they're a burden to keep in your ears. At just under $50 (got a % off discount from their usual price thanks to a promo) I feel I've got the right value and quality for my money.

Wrap Up

At around $50 for the lot - earbuds and charging case - you'll be hard-pressed to find better value. A high-quality product giving fantastic sound and all the right features. After using them now for a few days, I doubt I'll ever go back to something with wires.

If you're after a set of Bluetooth earbuds, I highly recommend the TaoTronics SoundLiberty 79 Bluetooth Headphones.
