A Great Addition to the Firefly Universe

Review by: The Audiobook ReviewWhile looking through what books were on Audible Plus, to my surprise, books 4 and 5 in the Firefly series popped up. Always happy to get more Firefly stories, so nabbed them both. In this one, Generations, written by Tim Lebbon, the established Firefly universe is expanded a little more as we learn about how the humans of the Earth that was packed up and moved out.

This story focuses heavily on the core team of Mal, Zoe, Wash, Jane, River, and Kaylee as they follow a mysterious map outside of the mapped and known 'verse to a potential treasure. What it turns out to be is one of the original generation ships mankind used to abandon Earth so many centuries ago.

It fills in not only a lot of that information but loads of information around what was going on with the people responsible for River. Focus shifts to tight first-person throughout; especially interesting is when we're inside the minds of a couple of "hands of blue". If you're familiar with the show, then you know who I mean.

This was an exciting story that paid homage to the established universe. Narration by James Anderson Foster is excellent, getting the mannerisms close to the actual characters I'm familiar with without being straight-out impersonations.

Overall, these books are a great addition to the Firefly universe and an enjoyable way to add to the show to keep it going after being cut too soon (yes, I'm one of those people!).
